Last week, we got a couple of pretty big reveals with regards toWolverine 3—including thatit’s officially calledLogan. The film marksHugh Jackman’s final performance as the Wolverine character 16 years afterX-Menlaunched the Australian actor into superstardom, and 20th Century Fox decided to keep this movie under a pretty heavy veil of secrecy throughout production. Indeed, filming wrapped before we learned anything at all about the setting, plot, or title. But now, just after theLoganreveal, the film’s official Instagram account is tweeting out some seriously dark imagery teasing the grim and gritty world ofLogan.
In a script page that was teased by directorJames Mangoldlast week (who helmedThe Wolverine), we learned thatLoganwill bring us a very different iteration of Wolverine than we’ve ever seen before:
As for our hero, well, he’s older now and it’s clear his abilities aren’t what they once were. He’s fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain—hence the booze as a painkiller.
This was quickly followed up byan image ofPatrick Stewartas a sickly andveryold-looking Professor X, so we can safely assume that A.Logantakes place a ways into the future after the events ofThe Wolverineand B. These two once peak-form mutants are going downhill.
These new images don’t show any characters, but instead tease a severed arm, a fenced-off area, and a dingy motel. Basically, the theme of everything we’ve learned so far aboutLoganis, “Get ready to see some serious shit.” In the wake ofDeadpool, we know Fox has agreed to release the film as R-rated, so this could certainly be one of the most intense superhero movies of the modern era.
